HalalServe is project of DawaNets CanadaZakat Group. Its purpose is address the religious & nutritional requirements of low-income new comers to the south east Mississauga area. It will be uniquely accessible by offering delivery to some clients who have limited mobility. The food deliveries will be done on a weekly or bi-weekly basis and will be available to all members of the local community, irrespective of their religious and cultural background or affinity
- To provide Halal Food to qualifying low-income new comers in the area based on a typical food-bank delivery model
- To enhance food literacy by educating clients about proper nutrition in accordance with Canada’s Food Guide
- To increase accessibility to food for low-income families through door-to-door delivery
The intended clients will be any low-income individuals and families that live in the area, specifically in the following postal codes:
- L4X – (East Applewood / East Dixie / NE Lakeview)
- L4Y – (West Applewood / West Dixie / NW Lakeview)
The eligibility of a potential client will be determined using Canada Zakat’s existing application process whereby documentation for government income (i.e., financial supports) employer income, and housing payments will be reviewed and substantiated
