“Missed a Day of Fasting or Broke your Fast Early (by mistake)?
For people who cannot afford to fast due to a valid health reason (including things like terminal illness, extreme old age, pregnancy, childbearing and nursing etc), the payment of the Fidya/Kaffara is due. This is the prescribed compensation for each day of the obligatory fasting in Ramadan that a person cannot fast (and cannot expect to make up anytime soon).
The Fidya is calculated as $10 for each missed day (~$300 for someone who misses all 30 fasts of Ramadan).
The Fidya/Kaffara is used to provide grocery essentials to eligible members of the community locally via our Food Assistance Program.”
